Welcome to the official guide to logging in and getting started with Ledger® Live. Ledger Live is the secure software that lets you manage your Ledger hardware wallet, track your cryptocurrency portfolio, and make transactions safely.
Ledger Live does not have a traditional username/password login. Instead, access to your crypto assets is secured through your Ledger hardware device and your recovery phrase. Ledger Live acts as an interface to manage and view your accounts but your private keys never leave your hardware wallet.
This means your Ledger device acts as a physical “key” to sign transactions, while Ledger Live shows you balances and transaction history.
Important: Your 24-word recovery phrase is your ultimate backup. Ledger Live never stores it and cannot recover your accounts without it.
To begin, download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website. Ledger Live is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Always verify you are on the official Ledger website before downloading.
Once Ledger Live is installed, connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer or mobile device.
Your Ledger device must be unlocked and connected for Ledger Live to communicate securely.
After connecting your device, Ledger Live will allow you to add cryptocurrency accounts:
You can add multiple accounts for various cryptocurrencies supported by your device.
Ledger Live itself does not require a password login. Instead, your “login” is the physical connection and unlocking of your Ledger device:
Every sensitive operation (sending crypto, adding accounts, installing apps) requires physical confirmation on your device.
This hardware confirmation step protects you from malware and phishing attempts.
Your Ledger device uses a PIN code to prevent unauthorized access. Here’s how to set or change your PIN:
Warning: Losing your PIN means you must use your 24-word recovery phrase to restore access.
Your 24-word recovery phrase is the master key to all your cryptocurrency accounts.
Never enter your recovery phrase on any computer or website. It is only to be used for restoring your Ledger device.
If you experience problems “logging in” or connecting Ledger Live to your device, try the following:
Ledger Live sessions are secure by design. To “log out”: simply disconnect and power off your Ledger device.
Always close Ledger Live when not in use, and keep your hardware wallet in a safe place.
Your private keys remain on the device, so even if Ledger Live is closed or your computer is compromised, your funds remain safe.
Always verify URLs and email senders to avoid scams.
